Kaizer Chiefs and Orlando Pirates are set to face off for the first time in the DStv Premiership this season. We look at three players who could shine in the Soweto derby at the FNB Stadium on Saturday.
Amakhosi come into this fixture looking to bounce back after their narrow 1-0 defeat to Stellenbosch FC at the same venue on Tuesday afternoon through a stunning goal from Ashley du Preez.
Meanwhile, the Buccaneers ended their four-game winless run in the DStv Premiership after they came from behind to beat Sekhukhune through goals from Linda Mntambo and Kabelo Dlamini.
Chiefs currently sit in seventh place in the league standings with 12 points, while Pirates occupy sixth place with 14 points after nine matches played this far.
3 Players to watch in the derby
The 32-year-old is in some form at the moment, having found the back of the net in his last two matches for Pirates against Royal AM and Sekhukhune United FC.
Mntambo continues to impress as an attacker and he will surely be a constant threat to the Amakhosi defence throughout the game.
The Namibian has been ever-present in the Buccaneers squad and played in all but one clash (he missed the match against Royal AM) but continues to improve his form in the final third this season.
Having scored one goal and one assist to his name, Hotto will be itching to take advantage of the vulnerability down Chiefs’ flanks.
Having finally settled in at Naturena, Dolly has slowly shown glimpses of his quality, with three goals and three assists in nine appearances.
The left-footed attacker, who is sporting a slimmer frame in recent weeks, has the ability to single-handedly inspire the Glamour Boys to a victory at the FNB Stadium, especially after rekindling his dangerous partnership with Khama Billiat. The makeshift Pirates backline will be wary of trying to cope with Dolly’s trickery and Billiat’s ability to pull defenders off their positions.
