Champions League Betting Preview

The biggest competition in club football begins a new season of drama, twists and turns on Tuesday when the Champions League kicks off.

We’ve looked all the fixtures and picked five games that “should” produce a clear winner. It’s an action-packed start to the competition with Bayern Munich travel face Barcelona.

Our picks to win: Sevilla, Manchester United, Chelsea, Atletico Madrid and Manchester City. A R10 bet will win you R65.95.

Sevilla vs RB Salzburg

The Spaniards may have been steady in their start to the current La Liga campaign with two wins and a draw last time out. The home side enjoyed a weekend off and will be ready to run the young visitors flat.

Young Boys vs Manchester United

The only away team booked to win in our selection but who would bet against United right now. Top of the Premier League and full of confidence following Cristiano Ronaldo’s brace on his second Old Trafford debut. The Red Devils are also in superb away form which further points to a comfortable win.

Chelsea vs Zenit St Petersburg

Fans of the Blues are quite rightly confident of a massive season. They are the defending champions and have bolstered their ranks significantly in the transfer window. There could be a flurry of goals in this one especially with Romelu Lukaku ready to mark his second stint at Stamford Bridge in style.

Atletico Madrid vs Porto

Atletico Madrid vs Porto might look close but that’s only on past strength of the visitors. Atleti have a strong squad and will ready for anything Porto have to offer. Thomas Lemar rescued the Spaniards in league action and Yannick Carrasco is another good goal-scoring option.

Manchester City vs RB Leipzig

Will Pep Guardiola ever be able to bring the greatest prize in club football to the Etihad? It’s far too soon to tell and despite missing out on both of their striking options in the transfer window, the wealth of attacking playmakers still means City will breeze past most sides. Expect a fast start.
