Kaizer Chiefs will enter their CAF Champions League first leg semi-final against Wydad AC on something of a roll.
After a poor domestic campaign, which ultimately cost Gavin Hunt his job, the club are looking to conquer Africa instead. Chiefs snuck into the MTN8 for next season after edging TS Galaxy 1-0 in the final game of the season.
The win was the second on the bounce for stand-in coaches Arthur Zwane and Dillon Sheppard. The pair though may not be in charge for Saturday’s game in Casablanca with Stuart Baxter likely to return to the hotseat.
The former Bafana Bafana coach won two league titles and two cups and is no stranger to success with Amakhosi.
Zwane is looking to win the elite competition as a thank you to the club’s faithful fans.
“We know that we had a very difficult season, a disappointing season according to our standards as a team,” Zwane told iDiski Times.
“But there’s also something that is very good in terms of the Caf Champions League. Through thick and thin the fans have been there for us and we appreciate that as a team.
“Hopefully next season things will change for the better and hopefully we can put a smile on our supporters’ faces by maybe taking the team to the final of the Champions League and win it for the country because anything is possible from now on.”
