Chelsea and Leicester City will renew their hostilities when they square off in the Premier League on Tuesday night at Stamford Bridge.
Fresh from the Foxes’ beating Chelsea on Saturday to lift their first ever FA Cup trophy, the pair will do battle with almost as much significance as both are not yet safe in the race to finish inside the top four.
Neither side would’ve been pleased to see Liverpool goalkeeper Allison head his side three points against West Brom on the weekend. The Reds moved to within a point of Chelsea, who sit in fourth, and three back of Leicester, who have held onto third spot.
Liverpool travel to face Burnley on Wednesday and a win there could spark panic heading into what would be the final gameweek of the season.
Chelsea might be scratching their heads as to how they find themselves in this position. Losses against Arsenal in the league and then the FA Cup defeat came on the back of steady displays in terms of shots and possession. But despite their superiority in those metrics, they lost both and now find themselves with plenty to do.
Both sides have been in patchy form, so there cannot be any upperhand in those stakes.
With fixtures coming thick and fast, perhaps it was the Blues’ that have suffered most when it comes to squad rotation and consistency.
For this tie, Chelsea will likely bring back Edouard Mendy, Kurt Zouma, Ben Chilwell, Kai Havertz and Christian Pulisic into the starting lineup. In the opposition dugout, manager Brendan Rodgers must find the solution to fill the void left by Jonny Evans following the defender’s latest injury.
Rodgers will likely recall James Maddison to his starting lineup.
The match kicks off at 9:15pm.
