Teko Modise PSL tips

Teko Modise is back with his tips for the PSL clash between Stellenbosch and Sundowns. Here’s his take on the big game!

Stellenbosch v Mamelodi Sundowns

Looking at the previous meeting in the Cup that went to extra time, it was a game where Stellenbosch really played well.  One of the best that I’ve seen them play this season.  The league is very different to Cup games though where you can always expect surprises.

Players can lift themselves to play beyond themselves in the Cup and it was a game that Stellenbosch could have won. Then again, Mamelodi Sundowns are a team that hasn’t lost a lot of games this season. They look unstoppable at this stage with a good mix between knowing how to win games and when to be patient.

Sundowns are also a team that has realised that they can win games late on in the dying minutes and we’ve seen them do it a couple of times already this season in the DStv Premiership.  It just goes to show the winning mentality.

I think that Sundowns have coped well with a busy schedule, but I don’t think the physical demands will bother them as they always have to deal with a similar fixture congestion every season. New players have slotted in well and lifted their performances to meet the demands. The quality and talent within the squad has really begun to shine.

Stellenbosch were also good in their last outing against Cape Town City FC where they looked to attack and were dangerous on the counter attack. They use their speed very well and I think they will threaten Sundowns on the break. Sundowns have shown that they are capable of keeping the ball and starving the opponents of possession and attacking opportunities.

While Stellenbosch have the ability to spring a surprise, I don’t think Sundowns will slip up as they focus on their title chase.  They have games in hand, but need to turn those games in hand into three points.

I predict Mamelodi Sundowns to win this one.  I can see a 2-0 win for Sundowns.
