Manchester City will be looking to avoid any serious slip in form when they host Southampton at the Etihad Stadium on Wednesday.
The Citizens were well below their best as they succumbed to Manchester United in the derby and in the process ending their 21-game winning streak. They entertain the Saints still 11 points clear of the Red Devils while the visitors are down in 14th.
Southampton won for the first time in 10 games when they beat Sheffield United but facing City will be a different prospect. Especially with Pep Guardiola out to right the wrongs of Sunday’s defeat. The former Bayern Munich and Barcelona boss has never suffered successive home league defeats in his entire managerial career.
While Raheem Sterling is likely to be rested, Sergio Aguero is expected to play some part in the midweek fixture.
He will return alongside the likes of Phil Foden, Aymeric Laporte, Kyle Walker and Bernardo Silva with rotation the name of the game as City’s fixture list continues to be congested.
