Lebohang Maboe and Gaston Sirino helped Mamelodi Sundowns move clear at the top of the PSL table in a 2-0 win over Chippa United.
The defending champions went five points clear as they took advantage of their rivals slip up; SuperSport United were held 1-1 by Swallows.
A makeshift defence, Andile Jali played as a centre back, was no issue for Sundowns, who in all honesty were wasteful in front of goal on Sunday.
“The game panned out the way we thought, we knew that they would be planting five in the heart of midfield but we had planned for that, we wanted a direct confrontation with our full-backs and their wing-backs,” co-coach Manqoba Mngqithi told SuperSport.
“Both of them did very well, Lebo [Maboe] was exceptional, Lyle [Lakay] was exceptional in dealing with those one v ones but we didn’t score the goals we should have scored, I think today we could have easily scored six or more goals.
The visitors performance left their head coach confused.
“A very jittery team that I noticed today, I wonder why we were so panicky in the beginning but also off-ish, one could sense a number of things when we were in the change room,” Dan Malesela told SuperSport.
“We were quiet than usual, I will find out but actually we were very lucky to be beaten 2-0, it could have been five, six, seven or something like that.
“But you get these things sometimes when people are just off and you don’t know why, we’ll try find the reasons and work on the problem if there is a problem.”
In other action, Baroka and Cape Town City played to a 1-1 draw at Peter Mokaba Stadium.
The draw leaves City in fifth but they do have a game in hand over Orlando Pirates who are just two points in front.
