PSL RETURNS: A TREBLE TO WATCH

PSL Betting Preview

The first round of the new PSL season starts this weekend with an opportunity to cash in on a selected trio of matches.

Suggested bet: Cape Town City, SuperSport United and Stellenbosch to win at 8.74

City are at home to Chippa United and if there is any discrepancy about how prepared two sides are likely to be in round one it will be this one.

The Cape Town side will be looking to put MTN8 disappointment behind them and show the same kind of form as they ended last season with. The competitive fixture will also prove decisive as Chippa lack that match practise.

The Citizens have added Ghanaian striker Prince Opoku Agyemang and Zambian international wide player Charles Zulu but it is unclear whether either are fit enough to play any part in this contest. Fagrie Lakay, though, will definitely miss this one as he serves out a three-match suspension after his straight red card in the defeat to Orlando Pirates.

SuperSport United , who do have a number of players out injured, should still easily see off relegation candidates Black Leopards in the second bet of this accumulator. A win over TTM in MTN8 action has them 90 minutes away from another final in that competition but in the league, they are always outside options to dethrone neighbours Sundowns.

This will be coach Kaitano Tembo’s third season in charge and the expectations are high.

“Our mandate is to do well than last season,” he said.

“I’m always preaching that (to the players). We always need to improve. This season we have to defend the MTN8. At the same time in the league we want to do better than last season‚ finish higher than last season [5th]. That’s how you build the team and that’s what our objective is.”

The final leg is Stellenbosch to beat Moroka Swallows.

The match is evenly priced as an individual outcome with 2.62 on the home side with Swallows at 2.67 but Stellenbosch showed last year they are no pushovers when they finished 10th despite a lack of goals.

That problem is worsened by the departure of Iqraam Rayners to SuperSport United but still, they have enough in the tank – players like Leletu Skelem, Waseem Isaacs and Ashley du Preez continue to impress – to start the new campaign with a win.

Swallows do have the likes of Lebogang Mokoena, Vuyo Mere, and Thabo Matlaba but many view the trio as a little past their prime.
