Liverpool will be looking to bounce back from a nightmare defeat at Aston Villa in this week’s Merseyside derby against Everton.
For the first time in many years, it’s the red half who are scrambling for answers and plugging gaps following that shock 7-2 humbling by the promoted Villains.
Quickly, it is Everton with the flawless record and no real concerns; with form or fitness.. Liverpool are without Allison Becker in goals and his understudy, Adrian, is under immense pressure.
Beyond that headache for Jurgen Klopp, there is the problem of the yo-yo form of Joe Gomez. Brilliant against Arsenal and woeful against Villa. Does Klopp bring back Joel Matip? It would make sense at this point.
Carlo Ancelotti will have Allan, Andre Gomes and Seamus Coleman available for the weekend’s first fixture.
So while Everton have four wins on the bounce, and Dominic Calvert-Lewin is scoring for fun (he’s looking to score in five consecutive league games) there is the small matter of Liverpool’s unbeaten run against their city rivals.
No losses in 22 matches in all competitions. Like most derbies, form means nothing and anything can happen. But after three goalless draws in a row in this particular fixtures at Goodison Park, you’d bet against that.
Most neutrals will have their head saying Liverpool to draw at least while some might go with their heart (and Everton’s blistering start) and cash in on the 3.63/1 for the home win.
The match kicks off at 1:30pm on Saturday.
Suggested bet: Everton or draw at 1.90 (Double chance)
