The Royal Challengers Bangalore were no match for a KL Rahul-inspired Kings XI Punjab as they slumped to a 97 run win.
Batting first, Rahul dispatched the opposition attack to all parts en route to a sparkling 132 off 69 deliveries. He was dropped twice shortly bringing up the IPL’s first century of the new season by Virat Kohli.
Rahul’s knock included 14 boundaries and seven 6s, all but one came in the final two overs as the Kings XI posted 206/3.
Dale Steyn, in particular, felt the wrong end of Rahul’s brilliance conceding 57 runs in a wicketless four over spell.
RCB’s run chase never started as Sheldon Cottrell struck early and together with Mohammad Shami reduced the much-fancied lineup to 4/3 including Kohli for just 1.
AB de Villiers struck four boundaries and a six for his 28 before being caught on the boundary. Washington Sundar top scored with 38 as RCB were bundled out for 109.
