A pair of matches on Saturday may very well go a long way in deciding the fate of the relegation battle …
Polokwane City host Highlands Park and Baroka host Chippa United. The reality has now hit … win and save your status or lose and risk slipping down into the GladAfrica Championship.
Winless in their previous two outings, Polokwane City coach Clinton Larsen knows the size of the task ahead.
Rise and Shine start bottom and face the Lions of the North, themselves looking to bank a top 8 finish.
Larsen is now looking for anything positive in trying to motivate his troops with the consequences at the forefront of his mind.
“We’ve got fond memories of our last game against Chiefs at Loftus. It’s a beautiful pitch, it suits the way we play and we’ve got to go there and again try and dominate them. That’s what we’ve got to do – try and create chances and try and put opponents under pressure,” said Larsen.
He added: “We keep saying it, we’ve got to win the next one. I think we’re running out of games now and the next one is do or die.”
Highlands Park will be no pushovers and they have proven tough to beat.
Suggested bet: Draw at 3.03
The late game sees Baroka, one point above the relegation playoff spot, host the Chilli Boys.
Baroka, who earned a point against Orlando Pirates in their last outing, haven’t been beaten in three matches while Chippa begin this encounter with two draws and a loss.
Their coach Dylan Kerr is ready to capatilise and get his side moving.
“We had a couple of opportunities. We’ve got a couple of free-kick specialists apparently, but they’re not scoring. They’re trying too hard. They don’t relax,” Kerr said.
“But obviously I’m happy with a point away at Orlando Pirates.
“I would have liked three but again it gives us a little bit more confidence and we are looking forward to a six-pointer with Chippa.”
His counterpart Lehlohonolo Seema will know that a defeat will see his side leapfrogged by Baroka. But whether he will be able to lift his side out of their funk is another story entirely.
Suggested bet: Baroka to win 1-0 at 5.25
