Arsenal will know only three points is enough when they host Brighton at the Emirates on Sunday.
With City winning for the 10th league game in a row on Saturday to open a four-point lead, the pressure was piled on Arsenal ahead of the clash at Newcastle.
The Gunners beat Newcastle 2-0 in a crucial Premier League outing last time out to keep up the pressure on Manchester City.
“Last year here was one of the toughest days of my career, to be honest,” captain Martin Odegaard said after the win.
“After dropping points against Man City, to win against Chelsea and then come here and win shows the mentality.
“We have to keep going and digging in and fight until the end. It is football, anything can happen. We need to be ready.”
The Gunners are one point behind City but have played an extra game.
They will be relieved that Brighton stumbled in their previous outing – a 5-1 hammering at the hands of relegation threatened Everton. This came as a massive shock because the Seagulls had just beaten Manchester United 1-0 with a clinical display that kept David de Gea very busy.
Alexis Mac Allister has made headlines this season and is tipped to be heading to Liverpool. The Argentina star has turned Brighton into serious Europa League contenders as they sit seventh following a remarkable campaign.
The Gunners have now beaten Chelsea and Newcastle to rebound into some form ahead of this contest.
